Edible Island offers the Zach Rosenfield Memorial Scholarship to a graduating high school senior pursuing studies in a variety of fields related to the culinary arts, agriculture, ecology, health, nutrition, and food policy. 

To date, the scholarship has been awarded to six students, totaling $6,500. The scholarship is supported by funds raised through Men Who Cook.

Edible Island is proud to announce a $1,000 scholarship to students of Deer Isle-Stonington and the Blue Hill Peninsula. Applicants must be enrolled at either Deer Isle-Stonington High School or George Stevens Academy and reside in one of the following towns: Blue Hill, Brooklin, Brooksville, Castine, Deer Isle, Isle au Haut, Orland, Penobscot, Sedgwick, Stonington, Surry. The scholarship supports graduating high school seniors pursuing studies related to the culinary arts, agriculture, ecology, health, and nutrition with an emphasis on the following interests:

  • Culinary Training

  • Island Ecology

  • Sustainable Agriculture

  • Child and Family Health

  • Nutrition & Exercise

  • Natural Resource Management

  • Food Systems

  • Public Health


Applications are due May 1st. Applications will be judged by a committee of representatives from Edible Island. Recipients are required to have volunteered for an Edible Island event, or be prepared to volunteer for a future event.
