Join Jason to learn the basics of hot water bath canning. We will cover the equipment needed, introduce a few different pickle recipes and discuss food safety when canning.
Have you ever wanted to "put up food" but just don't know where to start? This is your chance to start with the basics, as Jason leads us through the methods of hot water bath canning. We will cover the equipment needed (less than you may think), some tips for preparing fresh produce for canning, and some proven pickling recipes. All participants will leave with a jar of dilly beans to take home. Jason will also dispell any food preservation myths and speak to food safety concerns while canning.
Jason Bolton is a Food Science Professor at the University of Maine. He works with food companies all over Maine/U.S. and teaches food safety and brewing courses in the new UMaine School of Food and Agriculture.
