Join us to learn all about raising and processing poultry, mostly on a home or small-farm scale. The workshop will span from the field to the plate, starting with a humane slaughter and ending with a shared meal.
Have you ever wanted to raise a few chickens to feed your family and friends? This is your opportunity to learn all about raising backyard poultry and humane on-farm processing. The workshop will span from the field to the plate, starting with a humane slaughter and ending with a shared meal. Participants will view different systems for raising poultry, have hands on opportunities to process and cut several birds during the day, and learn about local resources for backyard farmers.
Instructors John Altman and Sarah Tompkins are both local farmers with lots of experience raising and processing poultry. Sarah was trained as a commerical butcher in NYC and now farms in Searsmont. John raises lamb, goat, pork, and chicken at David's Folly in Brooksville.
